If you haven’t been focusing on proper skin care, you may be noticing that as you age, you start getting more acne and skin spots. I know that my skin typically changes every few years, whether because of my diet or stress. Change your skin care routine to fit the skin type you’re currently experiencing. Do not use the same products despite changes in your skin. To start the routine, first take the time to learn your skin type and get to know the quality products. You don’t just want any run-of-the-mill product at your local drug store. Give your skin the kind of vitamins and nutrients it deserves.
Step One: Cleanse
Step one to starting a new skin care routine is choosing a cleanser. You should be cleansing your face twice a day. Clean your face in the morning when you wake up to freshen it before adding moisturizer, sunscreen and/or makeup products. Find a cleanser meant for your skin type. You can also get a cleanser that is appropriate for all skin types, such as All Skin Types Cleanser by Pevonia. This product is made with fruit extracts and smells like strawberry. It is a foam cleanser so it is easy to use and apply and will remove all impurities and bacteria from your face.
Step Two: Exfoliate
The next step of your skin care routine should be the exfoliating product, though you don’t need to do this every day. Many exfoliators are exceptional for removing dead skin cells but can be harsh so you should limit yourself to 2-4 times a week. However you can also get a daily exfoliator like the Daily Polishing Cleanser from GloTherapeutics. This will use the Jojoba beads for exfoliating your skin while cleansing it, giving you two steps in one product.
Step Three: Moisturize
One of the best things you can do for your skin is use a moisturizing lotion. The moisturizer should be for your skin type because if it is for all skin types and you have oily skin, it might add a little too much moisture and make your face appear shiny. For combination or oily skin, Oil Control Lotion by Dermalogica is amazing. Your skin will feel velvety soft with this moisture-balancing lotion. Apply it to a freshly cleansed face twice a day.
Step Four: Protect
Don’t forget to protect your skin from sun damage with a good sunscreen. If your moisturizer contains a high enough SPF for your skin type, you don’t need to worry about sunscreen on your face. However you should still apply it to your body every day before leaving the house. If you do need one for your face, the Solar Defense Booster SPF 50 by Dermalogica is one of the best. This contains the highest SPF at 50 which is recommended for fair and sunburn-prone skin. You should always apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before leaving the house and use it year-round, not just when it feels hot outside. The sun can burn and damage your skin during any weather and temperature. You can make a habit of applying sunscreen before your makeup and that gives you enough time to let it work into your skin before going outside.
